The Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) is designed for athletes who are unable to participate in official Special Olympics sport competitions because of their skill and/or functional abilities.

MATP is designed to prepare athletes -- including those with severe or profound intellectual disability and significant physical disabilities -- for sport-specific activities appropriate for their ability levels. MATP athletes participate in regular training specifically designed to help in the development of gross motor skills. MATP is not a competition programme, although athletes do have the opportunity to demonstrate their achievements at MATP Challenge Days.
