SPECIAL OLYMPICS SINGAPORE
CALENDER OF EVENTS 2011

In conjunction with the Send Off Ceremony on 3 June 2011, Major-General (NS) Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports presented the Singapore flag to the team attempting the Mt Kilimanjaro climb from 7 to 15 June. The team comprises of Special Olympics Singapore athlete, Mr Sailihin Bin Sinai, Mr Michael Dee, former Senior Managing Director of Temasek Holdings, Mr Herith Suleiman Herith, athlete from Special Olympics Tanzania, accompanied by Special Olympics Singapore’s volunteer Mr JC Yeo and Mr Dee’s 3 sons.
The project was initiated by Mr Dee. The objective of the Climb is to demonstrate to the world that individuals with intellectual disabilities have the capacity, capabilities, resilience and tenacity to train and climb Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. It is hoped that the project will be the pre-event that celebrates the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
